What is art?
In you opinion, what are key features of the kinds of things we call 'art'?
In my opinion, art gives us a way to be creative and allow us express ourselves. Art should be created with purposes. it is subjective and innovative.
How does Adams define art in the reading?
According Adams, art is divided into a number of types:
- The literary arts: writing, drama, film and television, which are characterized by the presence of narrative.
- The fine arts: sculpture, painting, music and dance
- The decorative arts: wallpaper, fabrics and furnishings

Can video games be classified as art? What does Adams say? What do you think?
Adams had mentioned in his paper that:
1.Art contains Ideas
2.Art makes you feel things
3.Art needs aesthetic
“Their developers themselves must begin to act as if they believe that their medium is an art form. They must treat their work as an art form and act as if they expect the public to do the same.” - Ernest W. Adams
For Adams, the answer of whether video games can be classified as art is yes. However, there is a condition: the creators of the games and the producers must trust their games are works of art. The games must challenge their players and make them to experience new idea. I think it is necessary for a game which is a work art contains thoughts and ideas. If all games just focuses on the entertaining elements can be called as 'a work of art', the word 'art' is too misleading and misuse. So games with ideas can help themselves be unique and can be appreciated by their players. Thus, the intention behind is very important to decide if a game can be classified as art.
To cite an example - Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus is an action-adventure game. It is regarded as an important example of video game art due to its detailed landscape designs, immersive gameplay and emotional journey. We could take any random screenshot from the game and
it would look like a work of framed art. Hence, many players of it appreciate its aesthetic.

Hi Heidi ! I hope you will work a little more on your post. You can elaborate a little more on what is art in your opinion. I also remember that Adams writes a lot more what according to him art is and what makes a game art not only mentioning the type, you could use it as well referring to your agreement or disagreement to it. You should also focus on game itself and provide us with at least one example of it you think might be perceived as art not not a one :)
