About ''Mission to Earth'':
It is an artwork created by Lev Manovich, which is a database-driven movie. In generating every part of the film, the software chooses from among a number of alternative sequences that reflect the identity of the character. The choice of a large or smaller window to display a particular sequence, and the number of frames that appear in a layout are with purpose. it tells us what the main character is seeing and represent her thoughts, memories, and feelings.

What is new or different about digital camera compared to traditional film making? (Story, structure and appearance of the film)
Lev Manovich's work is different from traditional film making. Firstly, there is different in structure. Traditional films are always made by one frame, but the structure of ''Mission to Earth'' is combined by different frames. For example, we can see three boxes on the screen, one for telling the character's mood, one for memories and one for her thoughts. Secondly, unlike having fixed stories in traditional film, the artwork has inconsistent story. it shows different clips which are picked up from a large database randomly and presented in different sequence every time. But the things presented in film are usually selected and arranged by film director. Hence, personally, I think 'Mission to Earth' is abstract and not easy to understand.

What other art forms does this film remind you?
Since, digital cinema refers to the use of digital technology to distribute and project the pictures in motion, this reminds me of digital art. Digital art also uses digital technologies with visual effect to create an artwork, like using computer programming.

Tatiana (Nov 13, 2014): As you wrote the film was not easy to understand. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Please, find some time to watch it again, and comment on the story in it. It is really worth understanding! :)
